We explore different aspects of dance, improvisation and performing arts in skill building intensives, classes, labs, theoretical /practical researches. Nightly dance jams take place in an outdoor marquee, beside the ocean, inspired with eclectic live musicians. Weaving the web of this international artistic community!
The Singing Circles serve to build community within the group and provide opportunities for deeper integration of the core material. We will invite lovely musicians for this heart opening circle in the mornings before classes start.
Intensives, most mornings during the whole Goa Contact Festival you join one Intensive course you choose with your online registration. This gives the teacher the possiblity to build up the material and develop a deeper process into the form.
Sharings are a daily practise and space in small groups of 4-5 people where you witness and express what is going on in this particular moment, with in your body, mind or emotional system. It can be a shared as well in silence or you can ask for feedback and support.
Lunch & Dinner, Forgotten Land Beach Resort offers including in the festival fee delicious vegetarian lunch & dinner including mineral water. Breakfast can be easlily ordered „al la carte“.
Daily classes in the afternoon with different teachers you can choose day by day. Most of the teacher teach twice in the festival to be able to share more of their knowlegde.
Beginners support, In CI Festivals can occur challenging situations which may trigger certain voices in our head that make it difficult to stay connected to ourselves, the other and the community. The timetable offers a variety of supportive formats such as the jam skills class, the CI basics classes, the reflection time, breaks for relaxation or singing circles.
In the laboratory we explore the unique quality of CI as a practice and as a form of performance.
Underscore Nancy Stark Smith originated this practice. The Underscore is a vehicle for incorporating Contact Improvisation into a broader arena of improvisational dance practice; for developing greater ease dancing in spherical space—alone and with others.
Performance night The performance at the end of the Goa Contact Festival provides a ground for fruitful intercultural and interdisciplinary dialogues. Curated by contemporan dancers and choreographers in collaboration with indian, american & european dancers, performers and teachers.
Scholarship program for indian dancer The scholarship supports young dancers from India in their participation to the CI Goa Festival. The Festival offers them a introducing in the full spectrum of aspects of Contact Improvisation. Apply here for your scholarship

Partnering Intensive: Shared Levitation with Marion Sparber The mexican dancer and teacher received his education in dance at the academy SEAD Salzburg, Austria, studying at the post-graduate program BODHI Project and at the EPDM in Mazatlán, Mexico receiving his Bachelor in Contemporary dance. Currently he is based in Berlin and is researching in improvisation and theater showing a strong connection with physical dance and movement. Baptiste Sejourne is a lifelong musician playing the guitar, drums, violin and cello. Over the past 10 years, he’s been dedicated to the electric cello, developing a specialised technique for building loops with special effects. Baptiste has performed in festivals around the world including the Contact Improvisation Festival and Bali Spirit Fest. Embodying music in all forms, he’s also a dancer, teaching contact improvisation and organising dance events. Most of his music is played from improvisation for Ecstatic dance and is a mix between electronic, ambient, world and classical. His music evokes a sense of serenity and presence. Baptiste is available to play electronic cello and DJ at Ecstatic dance events.
Frey Faust is a 56 year old veteran of the New York contemporary dance scene, with a strong European renommée and intercontinental touring circuit. His focus for the last twenty years has shifted to the educational value of applied science in the arts, with an emphasis on anatomy and physics, including aspects of sociology and cognitive science. With the help of colleagues from the arts and sciences, He began consolidating the interdisciplinary movement analysis and reference system called The Axis Syllabus (The AS) in the late 1990’s. (www.freyfaust.org) Going to the Mountain, Axis Syllabus Intensive Relying on a situation adapted approach to the classroom context, I will assume that the direction of the class, its discussions, material content and specific practices will arise out of our meeting. The personal adaptation of given movement material is a physiological necessity, a fundamental aspect of creative expression and self-respect. Improvisational, experiential research usually forms the bulk of class time. Exemplary, repeating movement motifs are chosen as ritual contexts for dynamic meditation (embodied chanting), the recognition and possible alteration of deleterious habit.

Graduate from one of the most established Art Institutions in India – The Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai. Has a Masters in philosophy in Yoga. Has a 200 hr of Yoga Alliance from U.S.A in LILA Yoga. Confident and savvy, Suraj is also a contact-improvisation dancer with experience in organizing yoga camps, C.I Workshops and art exhibitions around India and Abroad .He is exposed to the vibrant creative milieu of musicians, dancers, Painters, and actors of this artistically conscious South Indian city and Traveled around Asia with sharing C.I and art work. Worked as a Teacher in Goa Contact festival. Worked with the Goa contact festival team for 8 years now. This year in continuation of the Goa Contact Festival, our intention is to sow seeds of CI India in various parts of the country. As a team he wanted to extend this wondrous journey from the beach into our cities, from dancers to all people.
Hugh is a Contemporary Dance Artist specialising in Contact Improvisation. He has over 12 years of teaching & performance experience. He began dancing when he was 15, training in Break dance and Contemporary. He went on to train at Northern School of Contemporary Dance, graduating in 2008. Since then he has worked with companies such as 2Faced Dance, Tom Dale, STAN Won’t Dance, and most recently Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez. He has taught internationally at the Goa Contact Festival, Goa Dance residency, Thailand Contact and ecstatic arts festival, Berlin Contact Festival and Portugal Contact festival and for National Dance company Wales (NDCW) as well as organising his own workshops and retreats in Portugal, Germany and Israel. Within his teaching practice he combines his experience in Breakdance, Contemporary and Contact Improvisation to create a highly physical, technical and intuitive approach to movement exploration. He has collaborated and choreographed with Danceworx Delhi on an international 360 degree dance film, and creates his own work focusing on collaborative improvisation with Musicians. He is also a qualified TMW (Tai Chi Movements for Wellbeing) facilitator. The principles of Tai Chi and Qi Kung underpin his approach to teaching and sharing movement.
Ma Prem Tara MA PREM TARA (FIN) I am dance artist; performer and teacher living in Helsinki, Finland. I graduated in 2004 as Master of Arts in dance from the Theatre Academy of Finland. I also studied dance in School for New Dance Developement (S.N.D.O.) in Amsterdam and in many workshops around the world. I’ve been working closely with improvisation and contact improvisation in several performing groups. I am one of the organizers of Goa contact festival and Skiing on Skin -festival in Finland. I graduated recently as certified iyengar yoga teacher. The combination of exact alignment of yoga and free flowing movement of contact improvisation brings balance for my practice as well teaching. At the moment I am in the middle of my studies as therapist and holistic counselor, which has affected my approach to teaching dance into more accepting and encouraging people for their own expression and truth, as well as exploring how dance can truly empower and transform our state. CI PERFORMANCE LABORATORY In the laboratory we explore the unique quality of CI as a practice and as a form of performance. What kind of performative and esthetic choices arise from weight exchange and following the shared point of physical contact? How a dance performance can serve as a ritual and a shared collective experience, where the roles of a performer and a viewer can be renegotiated and mixed? We will start with guided sessions and exploring improvisation scores and noticing what sort of dances, situations and presence different scores evoke. We may become aware of choices and possibilities we engage with in improvisation and different ways we may engage in the dance for example trough exploring our perceptual awareness. Then we proceed into more independent exploration in small groups towards the end of the week.
Marielle discovered her passion for dancing – especially for Contact Improvisation in 2012. Since then she is continuously fascinated by this unique and exciting dance form. She is investigating somatic practices such as Body-Mind-Centering and the Axis Syllabus as a point of departure for solo movement and Contact Improvisation in water and on land.Teachers she mainly feels inspired and influenced by are Jörg Hassmann, Daniel Werner, Kira Kirsch, Antoine Ragot, Friederike Tröscher, Jens Johannsen and Otto Ramstad. Marielle teaches Contact Improvisation and Watercontact in regular evening classes, different workshop-formats and on various Contact Impro festivals in Germany and internationally in Austria, India and Portugal. She is organising Jams in Kassel, Witzenhausen and Göttingen, teaches CI and Somatics in the school for contemporary dance Sozo Visions in Motion in Kassel and is involved in a couple of different performance projects.
Partnering Intensive: Shared Levitation with Alan Fuentes y Guerra I teach Contemporary dance training with emphasis on floor work. We start the class by opening our channels of awarness. The warm-up is focused on passing through the whole body and expanding our flexibility and strength. We use the playfullness in our movement to connect to the natural flow of breath. With the help of exercises in different constellations – in a group, with a partner and alone – we listen to the weight of our body and direct it through space. An important aspect of the training is the attention to the momentum in movement and on integrating changes of dynamic and musicality in short movement phrases. As techniques of inspiration for my class I use a lot the principles of Flying Low technique by David Zambrano as well as release technique mixed with my personal investigation. I like to establish a collective mind and body inside the class to enhance the group power giving an energetic push to the individual source of creativity. Originally from South Tyrol in Italy, Marion is a professional dancer/instructor based in Berlin, Germany. She received her professional dance training at Varium and Iwanson. My story with music starts with african drum s when i was travelling in west africa. After sometime my hands started to hurt !!! So i started playing guitar to learn old french songs. Then, one day, i met an angel in the south of france who introduced me to mantra (sacred songs) singing and a few months later i joined the rainbow family at a gathering. The rainbow and mantra songs are a simple way to connect people on a very deep level. I feel a lot of joy and unity to share the music Everywhere i go, So come and join us in Portugal! During the summer months i travel around Europe with other musicians in a band we call jedapama. We are a rap, reggae, french fusion band playing more than 100 live shows in Europe. Nicole is a dance artist living, learning, and teaching nomadically. She studied contemporary dance and psychology at Concordia University and has spent the last five years working on various projects developing dance and education programs for people with special needs. Her current movement research involves an intermingling of elements from contemporary dance, acrobatics, contact improvisation, axis syllabus and capoeira.
Intelligent Body Intelligent Body is an improvisationally and technically challenging module from Combat DanceTM practice where we put you in different situation and let the body train & explore how to deal with those situations and aim to foster creativity and reflexivity. We will study some basic concepts and discover how to work on development of Coordination and Rhythm in the whole body and their crucial role while in relation with another Body or while being in solo. Additionally we will study different relationships between couples, such as power, dependency, indifference, protection etc. This class is also a research ground for touch and the training it offers. Shifu Ash is a choreographer & experimental dancer from Mumbai, India. He is the Founder & Artistic Director of Tianzhu Dance Theater. His early training background was in Martial Arts while his later training included 3 Years Ballet & 10 Years of Contemporary Dance in India, US, China, Europe & Israel. He is is also a current member of CID-UNESCO Paris (International Dance Council) and the founding member of CDCI (Contemporary Dance Council India). He has trained with number of artists like: Ohad Naharin, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Nancy Stark, David Zambrano, Joe Alegado, Sara Shelton Mann, Andrew De Lotbinière Hardwood, Akram Khan, Desmond Richardson, Era Jouravlev, Stephanie Godino, Kira Kirsch, Terence Lewis, Mia Michael, Sonya Tayeh, Anjelika Doniy, Danny Ezralow, Frey Faust, Corinne Lanselle, Laura Aris… to name a few He is also the creator of Movement practice called Combat DanceTM, is a hybrid philosophy of Martial Arts & Contemporary Dance, the practice focuses on finding the hidden connections of inner space & outer space. It is improvisationally and technically challenging practice in which touch is a primary training tool. CD offers a higher complexity of the combinations, high physical challenges, and the emphasis on speed, dynamics and risks.
I am dancer, dance-teacher, performance-artist and bodyworker made in Finland, but currently based in Berlin, India, and nomadic temporary moments in time and space. I have studied in Finland, Helsinki - in Theatre Academy of Finland (TEAK) and Metropolia AMK. I graduated from TEAK 2008 as dance- and theatre-teacher (Master of Arts), and 1998 I got out of Metropolia as Theatre- and dance-pedagogue, specialised on devising dance and theatre. Though - I guess my dearest high-school and university in dance and contact-improvisation has been finnish contact community, where I have learned so much, by sharing the dance and rolling point with the other spiralling beautiful finns since 20 years. I have been teaching contact and dance since 15 years all around the world, on many internationally acknowledged festivals and retreats. Especially recent years I have been more focused on organising my own workshops, events and festivals. I am one of the organisers of Goa Contact Festival since 10 years, and that has become big part of my life - to live my winters in India, and create platforms and possibilities for cultural exchange, dance and learning - throughout the whole winter-season in Arambol Beach, in "Forgotten Land" which is our collaborative dance-center.
is an artist who positions his artistic work in the context of society. He develops and realize successfully concepts, strategies, and ways of working in the framework of various life-worlds. In relation to systems of expertise he understands non-artistic questions, problems, and prejudices, to respond to these professionally, and ground the relevance of his own work. He studied anthropology in J.W.Goethe University Frankfurt/Main with focus on rituals in traditional communities. Practical anthropological studies with the Griot (trad. mythteller) Nago Koite from Senegal/Berlin in african dance, music and storytelling He has bases in Berlin, Algarve and Goa. Volker is in the directors team of Goa Contact Festival, Goa Ecstatic Dance Festival, Body Love Festival, Ecstatic Dance Festival Germany, Portugal CI Gathering and Ecstatic Dance Festival Portugal. He is the founder of “Forgotten Land” and “Little House of Arts” at Arambol beach and a co-founder of the Yoga & Dance Retreat “Ibiza Moving Arts”, In Touch Festivals international and an original member of Spacewalk. Spacewalk works with interventions in social and spacious areas of conflict by using means and methods of theater, dance, music, video and visual arts.
NGO Board (IN) ZinnDa: means to be alive! A free spirit and a bundle of pure joy, there is nothing this happy soul isn’t capable of! His evolution has been quite a journey, from being a techie to transforming into an Osho sannyasin. He was born with the heart of a nomad and has been a traveller for most of his life now. What’s his purpose? one might wonder! He has been closely working with the Osho Communes, spiritual festivals all around the world and the Contact Dance Community to help in bringing spiritual awareness and spreading peace in communities everywhere. This was the thought that lead him to create his NGO: Global Cultural Exchange Organisation that brings communities around the world and people from all walks of life together in a peaceful and harmonious environment of sharing and learning. Navgrah Shanti Yagna or The Fire Pooja for Peace and Prosperity: A Yagna or Havan is a traditional Indian Pooja ceremony that involves the recital of Vedic Chants and holy offerings(Samagri) made to the fire. The combined effect of these chants and the fire together cleanse and purify the air and aura. You are free to participate or observe during the ceremony. A brief explanation about the Havan, its scientific and spiritual benefits will also be discussed.
