Artistic Vision

In close collaboration with the Indian contact dance community, the arambolian musicians and artists we create an unique festival with in- depth somatic education, strong sense of community and colorful artistic exchange.

Especially together with the InContact Collective, we are developing a program that focuses on hidden racism and consent in contact improvisation community.
There will be series of events within the festival dedicated to these themes. In particular, we are transforming our Scholarship Program into the Fellowship Program in order to establish a more dedicated, detailed, and long-term relationship with a wider community of dancers in India.

Our proposal

Please notice that rather than a short -time visit we want to encourage you to stay for the whole season of events. This opportunity ‘the India immersion’ includes the trainings, jams, festivals for the whole month of January. The more you participate, the stronger the involvement with the community.

Together we are working towards a sustainable and stable contact improvisation scene in India, inviting Indian dancers and performers to the festival and providing a platform for community exchange. We are supporting and following the InContact collective’s plans for trainings, festivals and jams in different parts of India.
We would like to have a cross-border cooperation with the possibility to invite Indian artists to Europe.

Fellowship Program

GOA CONTACT FESTIVAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

Goa Contact festival has been offering Scholarship program for indian dancers from the beginning of the festival -that is over 11 years. The aim of the program is to enable Indian dancers, ci practioners all around India to join the festival through a special monitored process regardless their financial situation. Throughout the years hundreds of Indian dancers have been able to participate in the program.

This year we are joining with Guru Suraj and Adrianna Michalska (co-founders of InContact – a collective for Contact Improvisation in India) in taking new steps towards creating a more sustainable scene of Ci in India. We are restructuring the program (with the new title: Fellowship) – in order to have a more long-lasting engagement with the Fellowship participants.

Objectives of the Goa Contact Festival Fellowship

The purpose of the Fellowship program is to support the artists interested in Contact Improvisation in India and to bridge the international and local ideas. Our vision is to work towards a sustainable Contact Improvisation scene in India and support the active members. We wish to create links between Contact Improvisation and practitioners of other dance and art forms to expand the future possibilities of collaboration.

Program is a rare opportunity to experience a full spectrum of aspects of Contact Improvisation focusing on research, practice and performance with experienced teachers from all over the world. The festival context is a possibility to integrate in the larger international contact improvisation community and create a platform for cultural exchange. Fellowship facilitators will lead discussions and sharing structures during the festival to encourage a fruitful sharing of dance, knowledge, learning possibilities and performances. The long-term objective for the Fellows is to create the platform for local and international collaborations.

The Fellowship program allows a discounted rate to participate in the Goa Contact Festival.

The topics of the Fellowship:

– Community creation and collaboration – Contact Improvisation in the current, post pandemic moment – what are the needs and possibilities for the spaces of       Contact Improvisation – International collaborations – how to travel, – CI network locally and internationally – Finding mentors – Research and development opportunities

Facilitators

Guru Suraj was one of the first Indian Contact Improvisation dancers to become associated with Goa Contact Festival. In 2016 he co-created Contact Improv India organisation that has gathered the first generation of Indian CI dancers to travel across India and teach Contact. Since then many new generations of CI dancers have emerged and new movers started to practice the form.

Adrianna Michalska

is a Contact improvisation dancer, facilitator, traveller, and independent artist with background in somatics, contact improvisation, creative writing, and various improvisation methods studied across the globe. Adrianna has been collaborating since four years with Contact Improv India and InContact – organisations that foster the development of contact improvisation scene in India through movement arts residencies, workshops, regular classes, jams, performances, and discussions.

InContact collective is a company created by Guru Suraj, Adrianna Michalska, and Harmandeep Singh, which aims to support current and future practitioners and facilitators of CI, continuously develop the current dance scene in India, and foster the cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
